Temple Festivals

The temple celebrates many festivals and special occasions with divine fervour, devotion, and communal harmony. These events are times when the spiritual energy of the temple is particularly vibrant. Below is a detailed overview (both confirmed & suggested) of what can be included.

Navratri (Durga Puja)

  • A nine-day celebration devoted to the nine forms of Goddess Durga / Shakthi.
  • Special rituals on each day: Alankaram (decoration) of the deity, HomasBhajans / devotional singing, Deeparadhana each evening, and Vijaya Dashami on the final day with special concluding ceremonies.
  • Often there is increased attendance, extended darshan times, special sevas.
  • Devotees offer KumkumaArchana, Navagraha Pooja, and special poojas to Annapoorneshwari.

Akshaya Tritiya (Akshaya Tadige)

  • This auspicious day is traditionally celebrated as the day of the birth (or manifestation) of Goddess Annapoorneshwari in many Annapoorneshwari temples.
  • On Akshaya Tritiya, devotees perform special pujas, homas, donations, and often arrange annadanam (food distribution).
  • It is considered an especially powerful day for starting new endeavours, giving charity, and performing important rituals.

Rathotsava / Annual Chariot Festival

  • Many Annapoorneshwari temples celebrate a chariot procession (Rathotsava) as part of their annual temple festival.
  • Usually includes Dwajarohana (flag hoisting), drawing of the chariot, musical processions, devotional singing, and cultural performances.
  • It is a multi-day event in many temples (for example, 5 days in Horanadu).
